Sharesight Connect is a service that allows you to exchange data with other online organisations. For example if your online broker supports Sharesight Connect, you can authorise your broker to automatically record your share trading data (i.e. buy and sell trades) into your Sharesight portfolio. This can save a lot of time because you no longer have to manually record this information into your Sharesight portfolio.
If you are a paying subscriber, any organisations that you authorise to access your portfolio via Sharesight Connect will also be able to extract data from your portfolio. This means that you can make your portfolio data available to other systems (for example a charting package or an accounting system), rather than having to maintain duplicate records.
Sharesight is working to establish relationships with a number of partner organisations so that Sharesight Connect can be made available in more places. A list of partner organisations is provided below.
Before you can exchange your data with another organisation, you must grant them access to connect to your portfolio via Sharesight connect. It is important that you only authorise access to organisations that you trust (Sharesight can’t control how a third party organisation might choose to use your data once you have granted them access to it).
The authorisation process is typically initiated from within the system that you want to connect to your Sharesight portfolio. For example your broker may display a ‘connect to Sharesight’ option so that you can opt to allow your broker to access your Sharesight portfolio. In order to grant access, you will be redirected to log into your Sharesight account and select which portfolio you would like to grant access to.
Note: Access is granted on a per portfolio basis. If you have several online broking accounts, you could connect each one to a separate portfolio or you can have multiple connections to a single portfolio – the choice is yours.
By default, Sharesight will send you an email each time a trade is recorded in your portfolio via Sharesight Connect. This email confirms the details of the trade that has been created and contains a link to view this trade in your Sharesight portfolio. You will also receive an email containing an appropriate error message if Sharesight has been unable to create a trade that has been sent to your portfolio via Sharesight Connect. Errors include things like invalid share codes or sell trades that would result in a negative quantity within your portfolio.
You may opt to disable email confirmations so that you will only receive an email when an error has occurred; or you can disable the email notifications entirely. This setting can be found under your portfolio settings, to access these settings click the ‘settings’ link (in the top right of the screen) and then click the ‘edit settings’ button below the appropriate portfolio. Options to enable or disable the email notifications can be found under the Sharesight Connect heading.
If you no longer wish to provide an organisation access to your portfolio, you may revoke access at any time.
In Sharesight you can to this via the ‘API’ tab on the settings menu. To access this, click on the ‘settings’ link (in the top right) and then click on the ‘API’ tab. You will find a ‘revoke’ option next to each organisation that you have provided access to.
We encourage our Sharesight Connect partners to also provide an option to revoke access within their own systems as well.
