Hi [firstname],

Welcome to the latest edition of the Sharesight newsletter! The purpose of this newsletter is to give you a quick summary of what we’ve been working on plus some tips on how to get the most out of Sharesight.

New Site Features:

new Choose your brokerage currency: We have added the ability to record brokerage in either NZ or AU dollars when adding an Australian shares to your portfolio. This saves you the hassle of having to do a manual conversion if you are charged brokerage in Australian dollars.

new We have added an exchange rate suggestor to the add/edit dividend form for foreign dividends. This means that you can have instant access to the closing exchange rate when manually recording a dividend.

Tax time is upon us!

Don’t forget that if you hold over $50,000 worth of Australian shares (at cost) you may be subject to taxation under the new FIF regime. The irony is that due to the market downturn, this year most investors will pay less tax, rather than more, as a result of the FIF regime! To find out whether you are subject to FIF tax, simply run the FIF Tax Report, under the reports menu in Sharesight. This free FIF eligibility assessment is available to all Sharesight users.

If you are liable for FIF tax, Sharesight will automatically calculate your tax under the Fair Dividend Rate and Comparative Value methods to ensure you pay the minimum tax. These calculations are done automatically by Sharesight for all expert plan users. Full details of all the workings are provided. If you are not currently on the expert plan, you can upgrade to the expert plan at any time.

If your accountant does your tax return for you, remember that you can share your portfolio with your accountant online. The Sharesight tax reports will save your accountant time and you fees. To share your portfolio click on the settings link and then go to the memberships tab.
